GREENSBORO, North Carolina -- Day five of the USATF Hershey National Junior Olympic Championships saw the fifth youth national record in the last four days as 15 national champions crowned at Aggie Stadium on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.

An American record in the women’s 17-18 pole vault set the standard high for the remainder of the day. Chloe Cunliffe (Seattle Speed Track) was the only vaulter to clear four meters in the 17-18 division with an American youth age group record 4.24m/13-11. Cunliffe blew out the competition as her closest competitors cleared 3.80m/12-5.50, the winner’s opening height.

Trey Tintinger (Helena Vigilante Runners) bested the field in the 15-16 boys high jump with a 2.10m/6-10.75 clearance. The 13-14 division American record holder entered the competition with high standards as one of two jumpers attempting 2.00m/6-6.75. Tintinger cleared it on his first attempt and secured the win as the runner up Stanley Funches Jr. (Iron City Speed) nearly missed the height.

18-year-old Karlee Freeman found her groove in the women’s 17-18 discus final to take the win. Freeman launched the discus 48.38m/158-8m on her fifth attempt to handily win the event by nearly three meters.

In the second heat of the 15-16 age group 3000m final, the entire field stuck together through 1200m, then the paced quickened with Collin Oswalt (USATF Missouri Valley), Ishaan Singh (Menlo i Greyhounds Track), Jordan Black (Arizona Track and Field Academy) and Max Warrick (South Austin Steel) took command and opened up 10m lead, but with 250m remaining it was Singh that threw down the hammer to win by nearly 5 seconds. Singh claimed the Junior Olympic title with a time of 9:01.61. Adham Maher (USATF Central California) had a strong finish to place second with a time of 9:06.13 and River Hill (Texas Titans Track) crossed the line third in 9:06.53.

Horizontal jump star Jayhlen Washington (Cape Fear Flyers) took home his second gold of the meet with his tight win in the men’s 17-18 triple jump after winning the 17-18 long jump on day three. Washington landed a 15.53m/50-11.5 jump on his third attempt and barely held on to the lead as Jequan Hogan (USATF Colorado) leapt 15.52m/50-11 in the sixth round.

Richard Seymour (USATF Southern) stole the show from the first round of the boys 13-14 javelin. The 14-year-old held nothing back and opened with his best throw of the competition, 54.25m/178-0. All four of Seymour’s legal throws would have won the competition as he bested the field with a massive six meter lead.

The 2018 USATF Hershey Junior Olympic Championships is USATF’s single largest event and will be broadcast live Saturday and Sunday, July 25. The broadcast will begin each day at 8:00am ET with the first scheduled running event. Click here for live coverage on USATF.TV+.
